WIN OLSS Express(7) vs. Holy Child Cool Cats(1)
Spring 2008 Division Champs!!!! The girls of Team Express should be very proud of themselves. Not only are you playing outstanding soccer, you are also learning how to be teammates and friends. Your parents and coach are very proud of you. On to the game............
Team Express got off to a quick start by scoring 3 goals within the first 3-4 minutes by Alexandra Adornetti who reached the back of the net 5 times during the game. Rachel Kearns also found the net along with Julia Beale who has been long overdue for a goal. Way to go Girls!!!! Lauren Vierno, Jenna Valero, Gabby Wuensch, Erin-Marie Hanley and Maya Dispenza played great as forwards. They constantly moved the ball into the zone and fought hard against the Cool Cats Defense. The defense had a great game also only giving up 1 or 2 shots on goal. They swarmed the defensive side of the ball always getting the ball up to the forwards. The defensive talent of Samantha Monteforte, Alyssa Esposito, Katherine Betsais, Serena Ruocchio, Hailey Caruso and Julianna Garbarino made Team Express one of the lowest scored against teams in the division. Top Notch Girls!!!!!!!!!!! And last but not least, we must give a standing ovation to the two stingiest goalies in the division Erin-Marie Hanley and Maya Dispenza for only allowing 4 goals for the whole Spring 2008 Season. Girls Enjoy the Summer and get some rest, because we are probably moving into division 1 in the Fall.

OLSS Blaze (0) vs. Petrides Panthers(1)
Through rain and only 1 sub, you girls were absolutely awesome.  The other coach was getting nervous when there were no shots on the goal for his team.  The only time they could net one in was through a penalty, which was purely an accident from our member.  We could have worked a little harder but under the conditions we did a good job and I am proud of all members of Blaze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We leave the season with 1 win, 4 losses (3 of them with the score of 1-0), 1 rainout and 2 no shows from the other team.  With all that I say we held it together and I only look forward to better things next season.  Enjoy your summer, thanks to all our parents through it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you in the fall!  Don't forget about next week's trophy/pizza/picture day!

WIN OLSS Stars 11, St. Charles Devil Rays 0
What a way to end the soccer season!!  All the Stars got into the act on Sunday where eight different players scored goals in a dominating win over the Devil Rays.  Here is the scoring recap: Kaitlyn, Hayley Gallagher and Gianna Disibio scored two goals apiece and Sydney, Deanna, Brianna, Alexia and Gianna Ferrante scored one goal each to carry OLSS to victory.  Casey, Hailey Varca and Lauren had great games on offense, defense and in goal.
This week's game capped an undefeated year for the Stars in both the Fall and the Spring seasons.  The team proved they could blow out teams with an explosive offense and could win the close ones with great team play and determined defense.  Everyone who attended the Stars' games this year was impressed by the way the team progressed from week to week.  Congratulations to the all of the Stars for a great season.

WEEK # 8       6/7 - 6/8

WIN OLSS Storm(2) vs. Great Kills Panthers(1)
The OLSS Storm took on the Great Kills Panthers on this extremely hot day at the Petrides Center.
Both teams played a grueling physical match as the Storm drew first blood by scoring on a corner kick,
as the game went on the panthers scored to tie it up on a controversial non call by the ref . This didn't matter much to the Storm they came out the second half just a fired up as the first and kept digging in the heat. They scored again via penalty shot that was awarded them because of a deliberate hand ball in the box by the Panthers. Team Storm also netted a goal that was disallowed because of an offside call and the match finally ended a 2-1 victory for the OLSS Storm and give them hope of having a perfect record for the spring 08 season if they can manage another victory next week for their final match of the season.

TIE OLSS Express(0) vs. St Teresa Canaries(0)
It was still 98 degrees at 5:30pm, but Team Express still showed up to play. Both teams played tough for the first 12 minutes but then the two coaches felt it was enough when one of the girls fell ill. Even though we were unable to score our defense as usual played an excellent game. Under severe conditions these girls are always ready to play . We ended the first half and the game with a 0-0 tie. I would like to thank the girls and the parents for coming down on such a day. Also we would like to thank the parents of the girls who left the Brownie Party early to get the kids down if only for a few minutes of playing time to support the team.
WIN OLSS Express(1) vs. Great Kills Dolphins(0)
In one of the best games of the year the Team Express stopped the Dolphins in a really tight, hard fought game. Maya Dispenza and Erin-Marie Hanley gave up no goals against a really determined offensive squad of the Dolphins. Our Defense led by Samantha Monteforte, Alyssa Esposito, Katherine Betsais, Serena Ruocchio, Julianna Garbarino and Hailey Caruso swarmed the field and gave up nothing as they helped support their goalies. They also kept the ball in the Dolphins zone most of the game. The offense also played great by putting constant pressure on the Dolphins Defense and their goalies. Julia Beale, Rachel Kearns, Gabby Wuensch, Jenna Valero and Alexandra Adornetti kept the the Defense on their toes the whole game until finally Alexandra Adornetti was able to find the back of the net with the only goal of the game. The girls continue to play as a team. They continue to back each other up and are starting to understand that we play as a team. GO EXPRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOSS OLSS Marlins(2) vs. Holy Child Cougars(4)
The Marlins closed out their season with a hard fought battle against their archrivals, the Cougars.  Despite the oppressive conditions, both teams played some of the best soccer they have played all year.  Liam, James and Joseph Volpe took turns in goal and kept the Marlins close with some great play.  Stephen, Matthew and Michael started the game on defense and challenged the Cougars on every drive down the field. Zachary, Chris and James started in midfield and Joseph Albanese played as a single forward.  Danny came in as a defensive substitute and helped stop Holy Child.  Joseph Albanese scored the Marlins two goals.
The Marlins completed another successful season in a very challenging division.  A bad luck of the draw had us playing the best team in league twice this season but we scored 4 of the 7 goals they gave up over 8 games.  Congratulations to the Marlins on a great year.

OLSS Blaze (0) vs. NDA Grasshoppers (1)
Hot and humid conditions on our field couldn't keep you girls from fighting the whole game.  You gave it your all and it was a very fair game between both teams.  In the end, though, NDA scored one goal with only minutes remaining.  You tried fighting back to earn that tie but time just ran out.  Girls, you really worked that field today and I am very proud of you all!  I know the heat was unbearable and you stuck it out.  One more to go..........................let's end with a win!  See you at practice on Wednesday.  Moms and Dads----pictures on June 21 as well as trophies...............will let you all know time on Wednesday

WIN OLSS Stars 1, Sacred Heart Stars 0
The Battle of the Stars took place on Sunday under the blazing heat at Miller Field.  Over the last two weeks, OLSS has played against the toughest competition in the league and came out with 1-0 victories both times.  Lauren, Hailey, Sydney, Gianna and Casey took turns shutting down Sacred Heart in goal stopping all of their shots.  Strong defense from Deanna, Hayley, Brianna and Alexia stopped Sacred Heart's drives and led to OLSS scoring opportunities.  Kaitlyn, Giovanna, Sydney and Julia pushed the ball on offense and had many shots on goal.  Kaitlyn connected with the game's only goal to give the Stars the lead.  One more game to go in the Stars' fantastic season.

WEEK # 7

OLSS Stallions (7) vs. There to Care Blazers (1)
This was the Stallions best-played game so far. Everything just seemed to click this week. The offense was passing the ball like crazy, which led to a four-goal showcase by Anthony Germana. Mike Weintraub played very aggressive and also had a goal. Danny Murro and Nick Camporeale chipped in with a goal each to put the nail in the coffin. The defense was incredible. It was great to see how everyone was backing each other up when the Blazers were pushing the ball up field. Nick Tritto consistently held his position and ran back to help the defense. The player of the game was Marchello Scotto. In the first half he played the mid-field like he had eaten ten bowls of Wheaties! It was great to watch. He followed this up in the second half by making more than ten saves in goal. Unbelievable! Overall, the entire team played fantastic, and used what they learned in practice to win this game. Great job Stallions. Keep up the good work. We are proud of you.

WIN – OLSS Rhinos 5 – St Teresa Eagles 0

The Rhinos have finally broke into the win column with an impressive victory!  This was the first week that we had substitutes and the fresh legs really helped.  We kept the ball in the Eagles’ end of the field almost the entire first half and we had a lot of scoring opportunities but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net for the first 15 minutes of the game.  Nicholas Meys opened the scoring late in the first half and scored three more times to record the game’s first four goals!  With about two minutes left in the game, Chris Pinho and Michael Raucci both get credit for the final goal as it was hard to determine exactly who pushed the ball into the net.  Michael Taylor and Paulie Fusco combined to shut out the Eagles in net, with Paulie making a diving save on a penalty kick late in the game.  Michael Matrangolo and Gavin Monreale made sure that the Eagles never mounted any serious attacks on our net and Bradyn St Laurent played his normal solid game on defense.  Matty Senerchia had a near miss on a crossing ball and he, Jonathan Goodale, Michael Bianco all played solid games.  The Rhinos are looking to take the confidence gained from this game going forward and we are hoping to finish up the season with 3 straight wins!

WIN OLSS Storm(3) vs. OLHC Wild Cats(2)
Hello again Storm fans. This weekends game was certainly a nail biter as the OLSS STORM battled against the OLHC Wild Cats. The first half ended with the Storm leading the Cats by a two nil margin . In the second half the Storm popped in another goal to lead by three, confidence might have played into it but it seemed like the Storm let their guard down by letting the OLHC Wild Cats climb back into the game and score two goals and threaten to tie up the match . Suddenly the FANS WENT WILD and it seemed as if the boys fed off of the energy and the storm found enough to hold on to remain undefeated during this spring 2008 season.  Great going OLSS STORM !!

WIN OLSS Turmoil(4) vs. Richmondtown Gems(3)
After a rough start to the season, "Team Turmoil" moved into the second half of the season with back to back wins to defeat The Richmondtown Gems 4-3 in a hard fought effort by both teams. Turmoils win helped push them up towards the middle of the pack in the standings. Julianna Adornetti scored the first of her three goals early in the first half. Jules "The Sniper" Adornetti having a great second half of the season finished with her second consecutive hatrick of the season. Michelle DiPaolo rushed down the rightside and scored a big goal to knot the game at three. Team Turmoil kept the pressure in the offensive zone and scored with about two minutes remaining for the win. Alexa Cardella, Alyssa Defillipo, Brooke Wildes and Allison Inserra worked extremely hard assisting on each of the goals. Steady, solid and great midfield play by Karla Briscoe, Jonna Scopellito and Halle Wine attacked the offensive zone and consistently hustled back to help on defense . Defensively, Nicole aka "The Sweeper" Vierno, Isabella Scotto, Victoria Altomonte and Erica "Bulldog" Ferrara played their usual tough and sometimes physical defense kept this game close enough, trying to limit as many scoring chances as possible by The Gems. Brooke Wildes and Allison Inserra splitting halves in goal kept up their hardwork, stopping numerous scoring chances and made some pretty amazing saves to help secure the win for the Turmoil team. This was a close scoring hard fought game by both teams. Team Turmoil never let up until the final whistle. Well deserved win for the hardest working team I know. Great Win!!!!!!

WIN OLSS Marlins 3 vs. OLGC Blue Knights 0
WIN OLSS Marlins 7  vs. St. Rita's Jaguars 3
The Marlins winning season continued this week with two exciting victories over OLGC and St. Rita's.  During the week, it was Joseph Albanese, Zachary Jones and Michael Endall who led the team with one goal apiece.  Joe Volpe blanked the Blue Knights with excellent goalkeeping.  Matthew Piccione, Liam Frascati, James Ammirati, Danny Maguire and Justin Delgado had strong games on both offense and defense to contribute to the win.  On Saturday, the Marlins jumped out to a two goal lead thanks to Michael Endall and Joseph Albanese.  Despite the early lead, the Jaguars tied the game at two and then went ahead on a goal that should have been disallowed.  OLSS started the second half determined to turn the game around.  Liam Frascati anchored the team in goal in the second half and Joseph Albanese added two more goals, Michael Endall added one more and Chris Luisi and James Ammirati knocked in one each to push the game out of reach.  Steven Wren, Danny Maguire and Joe Volpe provided important stops on defense and Justin Delgado and Zachary Jones pushed the ball into the Jaguars territory to keep the pressure on.  Two great team victories by the Marlins this week.
WIN OLSS Express(3) vs. OLQP Stars(1)
The Express jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Alexandra Adornetti netted the 1st of 2 goals. Serena Ruocchio put the icing on the cake when she scored the 3rd goal with a few minutes left in the game.  Julia Beale and Rachel Kearns played an excellent mid-field never giving up on the ball. Lauren Vierno, Gabby Wuensch and Hailey Caruso all played excellent forwards and many times almost put the ball in the net. The defense led by Samantha Monteforte played outstanding and help save many shots from going through. Katherine Betsais stepped up her game in the defensive role by constantly attacking and clearing the ball out of the zone. Alyssa Esposito, Julianna Garbarino, Jenna Valero all played excellent on defense constantly attacking the ball and clearing the zone. Erin-Marie Hanley and Maya Dispenza played excellent as goalie and made some really great saves. Another TEAM win for the Express.
TIE OLSS Express(1) vs. St Charles Strikers(1)
Team Express met a tough team in the St Charles Strikers on Monday night. The Strikers jumped out to an early lead. Close to the end of the first half Rachel Kearns tied the game up when she netted the last goal of the game. Alexandra Adornetti, Julia Beale and Lauren Vierno played excellent at midfield always fighting for the ball and never giving up. Jenna Valero, Gabby Wuensch, Erin-Marie Hanley all contributed on offense and helped out on defense. The defense again led by Samantha Monteforte, Alyssa Esposito, Katherine Betsais, Hailey Caruso,Serena Ruocchio, Julianna Garbarino and Geneieve Steinmetz all played excellent on defense and really helped Team Express preserve the tie. Maya Dispenza played awesome as goalie and made some really good saves from a really good team. Again the girls really stepped up as a team and are really learning how to back each other up. GREAT GAME GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WIN OLSS Blaze (4) vs. Richmondtown Starlettes (0)
Well girls, it's about time we had a chance to show another team what we are made of.  Even though we outnumbered the other team, we used what we learned in all our practices.  I am so very proud of everyone of you!  This win has been a long time coming............I knew we could do it.  I know you were all so very excited to win and although it really doesn't matter if we win or lose the game it was nice to actually play AND win, especially after the season we have had with teams not showing.
To all those who shined in goal, there were so many of you who wanted to play in goal and you all did a great job!  You all hustled down that field and assists were handed off to Caitlin Gleavy who scored 3 goals (Mr. Gregorio and Mr. Espada actually threw the hats out to Cait for the "hat trick"----thank you for that) and Isabella "Bella" Espada scored the other to end the shutout.  Emma did score a goal but on the ref's  whistle so we couldn't count that one, but great job getting it in the net.  Carlie had great chances at goal with kicks that were strong but the goalie stopped them before they could pass her.  Chloe, Sophia, Christa, Nicole, and Julia starred defensively and offensively.  Let's keep up the good work for the next two games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Michaela and Katie, I know you girls couldn't be there but we missed you...................
Special thank you to the parents who had the patience for another week to stick it out until the other team showed. I know plans were cancelled to get to the game and from the bottom of my heart, thank you!!!  See you all at practice on Wednesday!

WIN OLSS Stars 1 Petrides Panthers White 0
The Stars have been cruising to victories all season so Sunday's nail biter against Petrides was quite a surprise.  Early in the game, it was obvious that the Panthers were determined to give us a tough game but the Stars were ready for them.   Deanna, Hayley, Lauren, Brianna and Gianna started the game with Casey in goal.  The early going went back and forth with both teams playing tough on defense.  Next it was Sydney, Kaitlyn, Giovanna, Julia and Alexia with Hailey in goal.  The game continued to seesaw until Kaitlyn blasted the ball into the net for the only goal of the game.  In the second half, great goaltending from Lauren, Julia and Sydney along with strong defense from Kaitlyn, Deanna and Gianna led to the shutout.  Another exciting team victory for the undefeated Stars.

Week # 6
U-12
WIN OLSS Sharks (5) vs.  Petrides Panthers Blue (4):

For the first time, the Sharks played at Petrides Panthers home field on an Astroturf, Collegiate size field.  The Sharks certainly felt the difference in the size of the field (especially the width) along with the speed of the ball on the turf.  Even the coaches were confused in trying to make quicker substitutions and moving kids around in different positions to add to the confusion.  The home advantage went away quickly when the Sharks took an early 2-0 lead on two goals from Michael Cannizzaro.  The lead was shortly erased when the Panther’s tied it up 2-2, but a score by Michael Beale gave the Sharks the 3-2 lead at the end of half. Michael Beale, Nicholas Pollio and William Trang had their work cut out for them at the Mid-field position, having to cover more ground than anticipated.  In the 2nd half Michael Lieberman scored on a beautiful pass from Cannizzaro, making a move and using his LEFT foot to score a goal to put the Sharks up 4-2.  Petrides came back with another goal to cut the lead until Will Trang put the Sharks up for good with a late goal to make it 5-3 and hang onto a 5-4 win. Although there were some late close calls, Fred Weiner and Brian Weintraub played well together in the defensive and stopper position to clear many close potential shots.  Anthony Hartnett, Chris Morelli and Michael Herko played shared in the Forward position and both Chris and Anthony came close to scoring goals! Giovanni Butalid played well in the Midfield and Defensive positions.   While Chris Odessa played defense, forward and mid-field positions.  Mark Dantuono made some key saves when the Sharks needed them to hang onto the win! Nice game Sharks!  Sorry for all the position switching and odd substitutions

OLSS Stallions (0) vs. SJHA Raptors (0)
This was an awesome game! The Stallions played extremely tough throughout the entire game and held the Raptors scoreless. The offense pushed throughout the game and spent most of the time on the Raptors side of the field. We had some very nice defensive playing by Tommy Setteducato and Mike Peruggia. It was a great job by the whole team!
OLSS Stallions (4) vs. ELS Eagles (2)
This was a very impressive game as the Stallions take their first win of the season. Eddie Pucciarelli started things off with very aggressive playing that resulted in a goal. Danny Murro quickly followed with a goal of his own. The Stallions held off the Eagles with some tight defense by Corey Palumbo and Nick Dantuono. Anthony Germana finished with two goals to continue his consistent offensive playing. Nick Simone made some great saves to help secure this win.

U-10
WIN OLSS Storm(6) vs. St. Patrick's Banchees(0)
On a windy yet warm May day the OLSS STORM took the field against a very hard working St. Patricks Banchees team at Miller Field. The first half was a tug of war of sorts with the Storm fighting their way thru the half with a 1 - O lead. The second half however was a very different story ,, Team Storm started blowing hard and hailed a fury of shots on goal while the defense kept things in order if someone tried to sneak in the back . And when the Storm finally was over the final result was a 5 goal half to end the match at a 6 - 0  OLSS STORM VICTORYas a final result and keep the Storm undefeated so far this spring.

LOSS OLSS Rhinos (1) vs.  Blessed Sacrament Patriots (6)

The Rhinos have been having a rough season so far but there are some bright spots.  Gavin Monreale is developing into a scoring machine – he scored for the second straight game after concentrating his efforts in the defensive zone for the past few seasons!  Gavin also made a couple of fantastic diving saves in net in the first half of the game.  We have decided to make this season as much fun as possible by allowing all of the boys a turn in goal.  Christopher Pinho tended the net in the second half and he made a couple of nice saves while Michael Raucci played his first full game outside the net.  Michael played an unbelievable game by controlling the ball very well and by helping to set up several scoring opportunities.   With no substitutes again this week the boys played very well!

WIN OLSS Turmoil(6) vs. Notre Dame Shooting Stars(2)
"Team Turmoil", faced off against Notre Dame Shooting Stars in a 6-2 win. Turmoil came out strong scoring three times in the first half on goals by Julianna Adornetti, Michelle Dipaolo and Alexa Cardella. The forwards including Alyssa DeFillipo, Dana Stucker and Brooke Wildes (second half), were involved in all six goals and kept the NDA defense and goalkeeper busy. Midefielders, Jonna Scopellito. Karla Briscoe, Halle Wine and Nikki Kinnear (first half) played hard the entire game keeping the ball in the offensive end and pitching in to help out our defensive. Brooke Wildes had her best half in net of the season facing numerous shots and blanked NDA to keep the score for the first half at 3-0. Defensively, Nicole Vierno, Victoria Altomonte, Isabella Scotto and Sarah Pelka who also had her best game of the season played hard making some nice defensive stops. Second half, Team Turmoil kept up the pressure scoring three additional goals. Two more by Julianna Adornetti for the "hatrick" and by one by Jonna Scopellitio who at the midfield position stepped up behind the play at the top of the box and drilled a shot that found the back of the net with about 30 seconds remaining. Great play to end a great game for the Turmoil team. Nikki Kinnear stepped up in goal for the second half only allowing NDA to score on one of many attempts. NDA's first goal came on a clearing attempt by a Turmoil defender (no names mentioned) which deflected into Turmoils own net. It happens!!!! Congrats to Alexa Cardella whose first game back after being on the disabled list played a strong game and scored a goal. Good Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOSS OLSS Marlins 2, Holy Child Cougars 4
The Marlins took the field on Saturday determined to play their hardest against the one team that beat us during the fall season.  Joe Albanese kicked off the game with a first half goal to put OLSS ahead 1-0.  Despite a stingy defense from Tyler and James, the Cougars tied the game at one before halftime.  Joe and Chris pushed the ball up front, while Matthew, Michael and Zachary patrolled the midfield.  Liam had an outstanding game as goalkeeper stopping most of Holy Child's shots goal.  Justin and Danny came off the bench and provided a spark to an exhausted Marlins team.  In the second half, Joseph drove the ball down the field and scored his second goal of the day.  Late in the game, with the team short on substitutes and exhausted, the Cougars pulled ahead. At the end of the game, Holy Child's coach to me that we were the toughest team they played against all season.  We have one more shot at the Cougars on the last day of the season but until then we look forward to playing the Blue Knights in our next game.

WIN OLSS Stars 4, St. Theresa Amazons 1
The Stars continued to sparkle with an exciting win over the Amazons on Sunday.  Alexia, Sydney and Casey started the game on offense with Gianna and Kaitlyn on defense and Hailey in goal.  Sydney put OLSS on top with an early goal.  Julia, Deanna and Hayley replaced the offense with Lauren and Julia on defense and Gianna in goal.  Before halftime, Kaitlyn moved to offense and scored three goals to open up the game.  Sydney, Kaitlyn and Lauren rotated through goal in the second half and shut down St. Theresa's.  The Stars continue to impress all spectators, opposing coaches and their coach with their fantastic play this season.

WIN OLSS Vipers(1) vs. OLSS Galaxy(0)
The Vipers won against the OLSS Galaxy 1 - 0.  This game remained scoreless until the second half when a goal was made by Gia Tilatitsky with the assistance of Allison DiPaolo.  Kristen Simone and Caila Marashaj kept our net covered.  Erin Schuler did a great job in defense.  Madison Baialardo, Samantha Delapi, Diana Pizzimento, and Juliana Tritto covered our midsection showing some good passing skills and ball control.  Great Game Vipers and Galaxy. The Vipers would like to thank Coach Andrew of the Galaxy for his great job as ref.

OLSS Blaze
I know some of you girls don't understand why we had to play each other but it gave us more practice.  We were all hoping for a win for our Mothers who came out to watch us and were truly disappointed yet again when they found out there was no game!  Thanks, to all, for letting the girls scrimmage one another.  They played tough and if I didn't steal the ball to score a goal, the score would have  remained at a tie 1-1. Moms----I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful Mother's Day................see you all on Wednesday.  Christa and Nicole, thanks again for the beautiful flowers, I already planted them!  See you all on Wednesday!

WIN OLSS Stars 5, St. Patrick Princesses 1
A large group of fans turned out on Mother's Day to see the Stars take on the Princesses and they were not disappointed.  Deanna, Gianna, Brianna, Julia and Lauren started the game with Hayley in goal.  The Princesses looked tough in the early going but the Stars pushed the ball and kept them from scoring.  The second wave of substitutes came in with Casey in goal and Kaitlyn, Alexia, Sydney, Giovanna and Julia on the field.  Kaitlyn broke down the defense and scored three quick goals to put the Stars in the lead.  Sydney came back in and extended the lead to 4-0 with a goal of her own.  In the second half, Sydney, Julia, Giovanna and Alexia took turns in goal and made some great stops.  Everyone took turns on defense and offense and kept the pressure on St. Pats.  Kaitlyn sealed the game in the second half with her fourth goal of the day.  Another great team win as the undefeated Stars continue their exciting season.

OLSS Sparks (1)  - vs. – Richmondtown Thundercats (5)

The girls were off to a really great start, showing that we are a strong team by keeping our opponents at bay throughout the first half.  A goal, scored early on by Samantha, gave the team a real boost.  Elaina helped by preventing the other team from scoring.  In a game where emotions ran high, Lauren, Kaitlin M. along with the help of Emily and Allison did an excellent job of keeping the other team on their toes.  Gianna, Jessica and Katherine showed great teamwork during a difficult game.

WEEK #4  5/3 - 5/4

U-12

OLSS Sharks (3), OLSS Stallions (2)

In a “family affair” game, the OLSS Sharks prevailed over the OLSS Stallions by hanging on to defeat the Stallions 3-2 in Division 1, U12 play.  Playing against each other were the Dantuono brother’s (Mark and Nicholas) and the Weintraub Brother’s (Brian and Michael).  Brian Weintraub was certainly up for the game as he was the defensive star of the game at the Stopper position, stopping the Stallions offense from breakaways and keeping the Sharks forwards shooting on goal with key passes. Goaltender Mark Dantuono came up with a HUGE save with 30 seconds left in the game to hang onto the Sharks Win. (I did hear it was an uncomfortable family ride home for  both Moms’ and Dads’ and their boys). Michael Cannizzaro opened the scoring with a beautiful cross kick pass from Michael Lieberman.  Michael Beale added two more goals, one in the first half and again in the 2nd half with assists coming from William Trang and Michael Catanzaro. Fred Weiner, Chris Odessa and Thomas Annan manned the defensive play most of the game working together to clear shots from the goal.  Nicholas Pollio, Chris Morelli, Michael Herko and Giovanni Butalid, kept the ball at bay in the Midfield position. It was a competitive and well played game.  The Sharks passed and moved the ball nicely during the whole game. Nice Win Sharks!

OLSS Stallions (2) vs. OLSS Sharks (3)

The Stallions had another tough loss as they played the OLSS Sharks in a very competitive game. It was a great effort with plenty of offensive pressure put on by our forwards. Vincent Rao made the play of the day, with his first goal as a Stallion. Anthony Germana chipped in with a goal to tie the game. The sharks came back to score a third goal and take the lead. Vincenzo Fiorentino took a blast with under a minute left in the game, and almost scored. Overall, the Stallions had a very good game with some nice passing and aggressive play. We are proud of you guys and appreciate your energy on the field. Nice game.

U-10

LOSS  OLSS Rhinos(2)  vs Silver Lake Academy El-Ahly(8)

The Rhinos lost again but they showed that they never give up!  Nicholas Meys weaved his way through the defense and found the corner of the goal early in the first half to get the Rhinos to within one goal of Silver Lake.  Michael Raucci made some great saves in net and Bradyn St Laurent, Christopher Pinho and Matty Senerchia tried their best in the defensive zone but the El-Ahly team clearly showed why they have dominated this division.  Jonathan Goodale had his best game by far since joining the team this year and Paulie Fusco, Brandon Wren and Anthony Merola tried their best to get something going.  One of the highlights of the game came in the second half when Gavin Monreale scored his first goal ever!  Gavin has always been one of our strongest midfielders/defenders but he has always had bad luck when it’s comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.  I also have to give a lot of credit to Michael Bianco, Brandon Wren and Michael Taylor.  Even when we were down by 6 goals these boys continued to play their hardest!  I am proud of these boys again for being good sports and for not giving up!

LOSS OLSS Turmoil(1) vs. Richmondtown Freedom(3)
Well tough times continue on for "Team Turmoil". We experienced another tough loss this week to Richmondtown Freedom 3-1. The girls were in it the entire game. Many scoring opportunities by the forwards but they could not convert them into goals. Defense and midfileders played a strong game. Keep working hard and things will get better. Hopefully one week we will have a full squad. Hope to see Alexa back from her injury soon, she is missed. Team Turmoil would like to send their prayers out to Allison Inserra and her family after the passing of her dad, "Alex". We all hope to see you back with the team as soon as possible.
WIN OLSS Storm(2) vs. OLHC Wildcats(0)
It was a cool windy day at miller field as the "OLSS STORM" took the field for their third game of the  spring season against the "OLHC WILDCATS" .The game started off very quiet the first half with the half ending in a zero to zero deadlock. But that was just the silence before the STORM ! As the team scored twice winning the game 2-0 and had two goals disallowed in the second half due to offside calls. The entire team played well and picked each other up when another player seemed to have their hands full and remain undefeated this spring

WIN OLSS Express(2) vs. SJST Fillies(0)
The game we've been waiting for!!! We were finally able to avenge our loss to St.Joseph St.Thomas. Alexandra Adornetti put Team Express on top 1-0 when she netted the first goal of the game. Rachel Kearns then added a safety net by adding another goal and giving Team Express the 2-0 victory. Maya Dispenza and Erin Hanley played outstanding in goal and both made some great saves. Genieve Steinmetz, Gabby Wuensch, Katherine Betsais and Julianna Garbarino played well on both offense and defense. Julia Beale as always played outstanding as midfielder constantly taking the ball to the net, and helping out on defense. The trio of Alyssa Esposito, Samantha Monteforte and Serena Ruocchio played awesome on Defense clearing the ball out of our zone the whole game. This game was an example of what I've been saying about teamwork. Every position on the field is most important and without everyone playing their positions we don't have a team. You continue to make your parents and your coach very proud.
Loss Richmondtown Rovers 4, OLSS Marlins 3
Friday night's game against the Rovers went back and forth with each team taking turns scoring goals in a great matchup.  In the end, the Marlins put in a great effort but came up a little short.  Joseph Albanese led the team with two goals and Chris Luisi knocked in one to provide the scoring.  When the final whistle blew, all players on the field were exhausted from giving it their all.  We have two weeks to rest and practice before our big game against Holy Child.
LOSS Vipers(1) vs. Blessed Sacrament Bratz(4)
The Vipers returned this Spring after a very impressive Fall season.  We led the U8 girls in goals scored and came in 3rd in division 3.  Our efforts were rewarded by moving up to division 1 this Spring.  The Vipers had their first game of the Spring season Monday night.  The Vipers lost a very challenging game to the Blessed Sacrament Bratz 4 to 1.  Caila Marashaj and Allison DiPaolo did a great job covering the net.  Our goalkeepers were assisted in defense by Brianna Mallia, Jessica Brienza, and Samantha Delapi.  Taylor Kelly scored late in the 2nd half to give us our only net of the game.  Great efforts were made by Madison Baialardo, Carolyn Dunn, Kristen Simone, and Gia Tilatitsky to score.
The Vipers would like to welcome our new players to the team: Dianna Pizzimento, Nicole Herold and Issabella Vitale.  All three players showed that they have what it takes to be a Viper.

OLSS Blaze(0)vs. Blessed Sacrament Gems (3)
Well girls, our goalies did a wonderful job and I can't be prouder of them!  In fact, the other team's coach couldn't believe the saves you girls made!  Despite all the falls, bumps, and bruises from the field's  condition and the occasional pushes here and there you all did a good job.  We have to be a little tighter on "D" and we will work on that this week at practice.  You girls work hard and soon enough that hard work will pay off!  Don't be intimidated by the size of some of the girls we play, you can do it!  Everyone on the team made us proud.  Let's go Blaze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  See you at practice!

Win OLSS Stars 5, Richmondtown Little Angels 1
With nearly a full roster of players, the Stars took turns in a dominating win over Richmondtown on Sunday.  Deanna started the scoring early in the first half and knocked in two later in the game for the hat trick.  Kaitlyn took the ball the length of the field and knocked it past the goalkeeper for one goal this week and Hayley put the game out of reach with one of her own.  All the girls took turns on offense and defense and several shut the Little Angels down in goal.  Another great game by all the Stars as we continue our undefeated season.

Week#3 4/26 thru 4/27

U-12

WIN OLSS Seashores(5) vs. SJHA Ladybugs(0)
The Seahorses bounced back quickly after a week one loss to defeat one
of their longtime rivals with a resounding victory. Emily Ruiz  and
Danielle Barone were dominant with 2 goals each as Sonny Baialardo
smashed home the other goal with a fantastic assist from Samantha
Pannone. This game was a great team effort as the seahorse together
crashed the net and applied constant pressure to the Ladybugs. Christine
Anzalone played her best game to date as she was all over the field on
offense and defense in support of shutout goaling by Amanda Grant and
Alex Pannone.  Kristen Contreras and Amanda Guttila also played a huge
role in the victory with great defense plays.

LOSS  OLSS Rhinos(3) vs. St Margaret Mary Bulldogs(6)

The Rhinos lost another tough game but they left everything on the field again!  Nicholas Meys scored midway through the first half to get the Rhinos to within one goal of the Bulldogs and then added another goal early in the second half to tie the game up.  Unfortunately, the boys started to run out of steam because we played a man down with no substitutes for a second straight week.  Even though they were obviously exhausted, the boys kept pressing to keep the game within reach.  Anthony Merola showed his never say die attitude by powering his way through the defense to score late in the game to get the Rhinos within striking distance.  Michael Matrangolo and Paulie Fusco played hard the entire game from their midfield positions while Christopher Pinho, Brandon Wren and Jonathan Goodale tried their best to contribute on the offensive end.  Gavin Monreale occasionally played up on offense but his defense minded thinking helped save a number of goals being scored against us.  Bradyn St Laurent played another solid game on defense and Michael Raucci turned in another excellent game in goal.

WIN OLSS Marlins(5) vs. Blessed Sacrament Tornadoes(0)
The Marlins were not happy with a tie earlier in the week and they took it out on the Tornadoes Friday night.  The team heated up quickly despite the cold weather when Joe Albanese quickly put us ahead 1-0.  Next it was Michael who drove the ball into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.  Tyler, Danny and Justin had one of their best games of the year on both defensive and offensive sides of the field.  Steve, Liam and Chris kept the pressure on the Tornadoes and never let them get off a good shot on goal.  Later in the game, Matthew and Zachary added goals to push the game out of reach.  Joe Volpe shut the Tornadoes out in goal during the first half then came out and shut them down on the field.  James had another great game on both sides of the field.  Joe Albanese put the finishing touch on the game by knocking in his second goal of the day.  A dominating win by the Marlins this week.
WIN OLSS Express(6) vs. Blessed Sacrament Jaguars(1)
Team Express started the game off with a quick goal within minutes by Rachel Kearns. Alexandra Adornetti netted 2 goals and Julia Beale, Gabby Wuensch and our goalie Maya Dispenza all contributed with goals. Erin-Marie Hanley played great on offense, and goalie in the 2nd half not allowing a goal. Lauren Vierno, Jenna Valero and Julianna Garbarino played great on offense and defense. Samantha Monteforte and Serena Ruocchio played a very exciting game, constantly hustling to the ball and taking on all defenders. They both  had numerous shots on goal that almost reached the back of the net. Another Team Victory!!!!!!

OLSS Blaze (0) vs. SJHA Hilltoppers(1)
Well girls, for the first time on a bigger field with bigger opponents you made me proud.  You kept that ball away from our goal most of the game and did your best with shots on their goal numerous times.  However, they had an awesome goalie that played the whole game which was a disadvantage to us.  You girls played your hearts out and I am sure you will be asleep early.  Good news is----------we get to do it again next week!  You girls received numerous compliments from parents, friends, and Nicolette who came to cheer you on, and I know you girls worked very hard.  Keep up the good work!!!!  See you on Wednesday! Next Sunday is an early one at Miller Field (9AM)

U-6

WIN OLSS Stars(12) vs. Silver Lake Little Devils(0)

For all the girls that braved the cold weather at Miller Field on Sunday, congratulations on a great win.  Everyone took turns contributing to the scoring in a well rounded offense.  Hayley, Gianna, Alexia, Kaitlyn, Sydney, Deanna and Julia all played great despite my best efforts to keep the scoring from getting out of hand.  Now that we beat the Little Devils we can look forward to playing the Richmondtown Little Angels next Sunday.

OLSS Sparks (1) vs. OLQP (5)

Let me start off by saying that I was very proud of the Sparks and how hard they played on Sunday.  It was my first official game as their coach and I couldn’t have been happier with the effort I saw to keep the pressure on the other team.  Katherine, Samantha, Allison, Emily, Lauren and Lisa – you worked beautifully as a team as you kept moving that ball to the other end of the field.  Jessica and Elaina worked hard as goalies against a very strong team.  Nice work by Jessica Petrone for scoring a goal.

WEEK #2  4/219/08 - 4/20/08

U-12

LOSS OLSS Stallions (1) vs. Petrides Panthers Blue (2)
The Stallions started the game with an offensive assault, spending a good part of the first half in the Petrides end of the field. There were many scoring opportunities created, due to a strong offensive rush. Petrides came back in the middle of the period scoring 2 goals to take the lead. The Stallions quickly answered with a goal by Anthony Germana. Our defense held them scoreless for the remainder of the game, with a great defensive showing by Nick “the brick” Camporeale. Nice effort Stallions! Let’s get pumped and have a great spring season.

U-10
TIE  OLSS Turmoil(2) vs. Holy Child Crosskickers(2)
After a slow start last week with a tough loss to Petrides on opening day, Team Turmoil went head to head with another tough team, Holy Child Crosskickers. First half, Team Turmoil played even with The Crosskickers with a goal by Brooke Wildes, who with Michelle "Crazy Legs" DiPaolo, Julianna Adornetti and Alyssa DeFillipo were constantly on the attack ending the 1st. half tied at one. Nikki Kinnear stopped all but one shot to help keep Turmoil in the game. Jonna Scopellito, Sarah Pelka and Dana Stucker along with Nikki Kinnear (2nd. half) playing midfield positions helped out on defense and pushed the ball into the offensive zone to help setup some nice scoring opportunities. Defensively, Nicole "The Sweeper" Vierno, Allison "All Over" Inserra held up on defense keeping the ball away from our goal and beating offensive players to the ball. Second half, ended with a single goal scored by both teams. The Crosskickers opened the second half with a quick goal.  Midway through the second half, Alyssa DeFillipo breaking hard down the leftside of the field found the back of net to knot the game at two. Final score 2-2. Brooke "The Vacuum" Wildes facing numerous scoring chances by the opposition stopped all but one shot to keep Turmoil in the game. Good game by all!!!!!
PS. We all wish a quick recovery to Alexa "The Sharpshooter" Cardella who is currently on the disabled list for a few weeks with a hand injury. She will be missed. Get Well Soon!!!!!!!!

LOSS OLSS Rhinos(1) St. Theresa Eagles(2)

The Rhinos may have lost their first game of the Spring ’08 season but they made their coach, their parents and themselves proud!  Despite being short handed the entire game, the Rhinos never gave up.  We trailed by 1 goal early but tied it up with a blast by Michael Matrangolo early in the second half.  Unfortunately the boys started to get tired and we gave up the winning goal late in the game despite terrific goaltending by Michael Raucci.  Nicholas Meys, Brandon Wren, Michael Taylor and Christopher Pinho controlled the ball for a large portion of the game in the offensive zone, and despite some great opportunities, could not get the ball past the Eagles’ goalie.  Gavin Monreale, Paul Fusco, Bradyn St Laurent and newcomer Jonathan Goodale all played great games, alternating mostly between mid-field and defense.  This looks to be a very fun and promising season as the boys executed a terrific game plan.  We all witnessed some great passing, spacing, communication and support for each other!  Thank you very much boys – terrific job!!!

WIN OLSS Express(5) vs. Great Kills Freedom(0)
Welcome back Team Express!! After moving up to U-8 a half year early, Team Express showed why the move was made. A bigger field, a bigger net and bigger hearts from the girls shows why this team is very special. Julia Beale started the season off with the first goal. Alexandra Adornetti netted two more, while Lauren Vierno and Rachel Kearns each had one to start off our season with a 5-0 victory. Maya Dispenza played great in net making four or five great saves and getting the shutout. Serena Ruocchio, Jenna Valero and Katherine Betsais played excellent in the forward position. Erin-Marie Hanley, Julianna Garbarino, Alyssa Esposito and Gabby Wuensch all played excellent in defense, hustling and attacking the ball all game. Samantha Monteforte and Hailey Caruso played outstanding in the sweeper position. They constantly attacked the ball and moved it up to the offensive players. The whole defense helped Maya Dispenza preserve the shut-out victory. Remember, everyone's position on the field is important. One player cannot win a game. The team effort wins the game.  Way to go Team Express!!!!!!!
LOSS Vipers(0) vs. Richmondtown Power 3
The Vipers lost to the Richmondtown Power 0 -3.  This was a tough cold game that was played with heart.  The Vipers defensive team of Samantha Delapi, Brianna Mallia, and Diana Pizzimento worked hard and strong against the power to protect our net.   Our goal keepers Allison DiPaolo and Caila Marashaj, did a great job keeping our net covered in some very tough situations.  Taylor Kelly, Gia Tilatitsky, Carolyn Dunn, and Kristen Simone showed off some fancy footwork in midfield coming "so close" many times to making a goal.  Erin Schuler, Juliana Tritto, and Issabella Vitale assisted in keeping the Power busy with constant attacks on their net.  We may not have won this game but showed great teamwork.  We are holding our positions and increasing our skills!  Congratulations to all the Vipers who have received their First Holy Communion.

WIN OLSS Strikers(4) vs. Richmondtown Kings(0)
Welcome back STRIKERS !!!. First game of the spring and what a game 4 - 0 shutout against Richmondtown Kings.
Everyone played a great game. What team work from defense to offence, great passing, dribbling and scoring. Andrew Bacola played the first half in net and did great not one goal. Eric Kearns started us off with the first goal of the game followed by two more goals from Joseph Leiberman. The Tafuri brother's Giovanni and Dean held up the midfield giving some great passes to Eric and Joe. Our defense was outstanding Sean Taravella played his best game keeping his position and not letting the Richmondtown forwards near our goal. The other great defender today was Joseph Monforte taking away every single ball and supporting the midfield. Surprise last minute show by Richard Greaves, closed out the game with a blast on net to give us the four nothing victory. Dean Tafuri played in net the second half and kept the kings at Zero.
What a way to start the spring !! Keep up the good work guy's, your becoming great soccer players. LETS GO STRIKERS !!!!

WIN OLSS Sparks (3)  OLHC Cheetahs (1)
Way to go girls!  Coach Mark will be very proud of you.  Thanks, Caitlin, for helping us out, being short girls is not easy and we appreciated your help and goals.  Excellent work of Katherine and Kate Malloy, without your quick hands OLHC might have been on top.  Very amazing how well you both did as goalies!!!!!!  Good hustling from Allison, Samantha, Emily, Jessica, Lauren and our goalies.  Keep up the good work, it was a pleasure filling in for Coach Mark!  We did miss Elaina, Lisa, Gianna, and Katie C.
WIN OLSS Stars 3, Richmondtown Sparkles 0
The Stars kicked off the Spring season just like they played all last fall, with an exciting win.  Deanna, Sydney and Julia started the game on offense with Kaitlyn and Alexia playing tough on defense and Casey in goal.  Deanna wasted no time and put the Stars on top with the team's first goal of the season.  Next it was Julia, Gianna, Hailey, Brianna and Giavanna who kept the pressure on the Sparkles and held them scoreless.  Later in the first half, Kaitlyn knocked one past the goalkeeper to extend the Stars lead to 2-0.  Brianna, Sydney, Casey and Hailey had plenty of great shots on goal that were stopped by very good goaltending.  Alexia , Giavanna and Gianna kept the Sparkles scoreless with great defense.  Deanna starred in goal and then went on offense and blasted her second goal of the day. A great win by the whole Stars team!

TIE St charles(1) vs. OLSS Seahorses(0)
St. Charles scored a second half goal to beat the Seahorses on opening
day. The Seahorses put up over 20 shots on goal but could not finish.
They received tremendous support from goalie Amanda Grant and Emily Ruiz
and played great defense in defeat.  Standout players included Kaitlin
Katz, Stephanie Montemarano and Casey Scarlett.  Jessica Graci also had
an outstanding debut with the team.

WIN OLSS Marlins (3) vs. SJHA Blue Crew (2)
The Marlins kicked off the spring season with a thrilling win over last fall's Division 2 champs, the Blue Crew.  Early in the game, great defense from Steven Wren and Joseph Volpe and goaltending from James Ammirati kept a strong Blue Crew team from scoring.  Matthew Piccione, Michael Endall and Zachary Jones patrolled the midfield and kept pushing the ball into SJHA's side of the field.  Joseph Albanese blasted in the first goal of the season to put the Marlins on top 1-0.  Tyler Breslow and Danny Maguire rotated through defense and midfield to stop the Blue Crew as they tried to mount a comeback.  Justin Delgado and Chris Luisi kept the pressure on and the Marlins had some strong shots on goal that were only stopped by great goaltending.  Later in the game, James Ammirati switched to offense and knocked in the Marlins second goal of the day.  Joseph Albanese secured the win by knocking in his second goal of the day late in the second half.  Tyler, Chris and Joe Volpe took turns in goal providing key stops to shut down the Blue Crew's comeback.  A great win by the entire Marlins team to start the Spring season

U-7
TIE OLSS Stingrays(0) vs. Holy Child Cosmos(0)
Lead by the outstanding goal tending of Kacey Fleming, Katie Vellanti,
and Lauren Panzella the Stingrays pitched a shutout. Unfortunately the
Stingray offense was also stopped by great goal play by the opposition.
This though could not take away the tremendous effort of Corrine Kamien
and Jacqueline Richardson who played their best game as Stingrays.

U-6
WIN OLSS Sparks (5) vs.St. Joseph St. Thomas Dolphins(2)
First, let me start by saying that it was great to see everyone again!  All the girls have grown up so much! They all actually got the hang of the game, even our newest members!   It was great to see so many parents cheering on the girls too.  You, girls, did an amazing job and the score of the game proved that.  We were a little slow to start but in the end Caitlin Gleavy scored 2 goals, Sophia Espada scored 2 goals and Julia Gregorio scored 1 goal.  So many of you wanted to try it out as goalie and your quick hands stopped that ball many times----Kaitlin Malloy, Katie Borg,  Elaina Schuler,  Samantha Ferraioluo, and Julia---all of you excelled in goal...  Other outstanding performance by:   Katherine Ebrahim, Isabella Espada, Gianna Levine, Michaela Murro, Jessica Petrone, Emily and Allison Migliarese, Lisa Ungro, Katie Ciccosanti, Chloe Weinstein, and last but not least....Lauren Taravella kept us in the lead.  So many of you were so close to scoring goals today!  Next time.............
Thanks again, Maylee, for keeping  the girls up  with their cheering on sidelines, they actually were upset when we weren't chanting "SPARKS" throughout the entire game.   It's a habit now.  Thanks, Mr. Schuler, (Mark) for stepping up to hold the glorious and prestigious position of the SPARKS new coach.  You will absolutely love it and most of all you will love the girls!  They are the best!
That leaves me saying good-bye to some of the best players that OLSS will see, your hard work and dedication will make you all winners in life.  I will still see you all at practices and hopefully I can stop by to watch a game.  Thank you, parents, for everything!!!!
